I have recently been reading various forums and articles around the net primarily about Comcast and it’s shady practices of “Traffic shaping.” Comments range from simple “I hate Comcast” to serious, well informed people expressing consternation about Comcast’s outright lying to it’s customers and the general public. Comcast’s party line, “Comcast does not block access to any applications, including BitTorrent,” is pretty hard to believe when independent tests have been performed and come to the conclusion that they are indeed, if not blocking, certainly playing with data being transfered, because they changed their excuse slightly after the results of the independent tests were published. In fact, Comcast is being sued.
Some people cry that its only the pirates using P2P and who cares if they get throttled. People that do this completely miss the point. It’s about censorship and power. We all know that big business pretty much does what it wants in this country for good or ill. America is a free country, but, it does have bars, mostly invisible, but there none the less. This whole Comcast affair is just the tip of the iceberg, I pay an ISP to grant me access to the internet, not to tell me how, when and where I can surf the net. If we let these telecoms get away with this kind of bull manure we will pay for it for the rest of our lives and our childrens live’s. When I say pay, I mean literally and figuratively.
We have to do something now, I was pretty much unaware of this whole issue until recently, but now I know, and I can’t just sit by and watch another freedom get sucked into the giant corporate vacuum cleaner of political and corporate injustice. Tell everyone you know about this issue and do your own research. We cannot let Comcast set a precedent that will screw us all in the long run.
